Commentary: This work references the anti-abortion movement in Texas, as well as many other states, where the legislature attempted to curtail a woman's Choice option to the point that the only realistic choice for many women was to either forgo having an abortion or resort to self induced methods or illicit back alley procedures – the coat hanger depicts these alternatives - for terminating an unwanted pregnancy, with very harmful yet predictable consequences for many poor women. The irony of course, is these anti-Choice movements masquerade under the guise of being concerned for women's health.
Medium: Reconstructed & painted house w/ door which opens revealing a crying door inside with a coat hanger on the doorknob, pregnant ”Alice in Wonderland” puppet hanging from ceiling, digital manipulated photo of Alice falling
