Commentary: I deconstructed an old doll house, then reworked it into a kind of story book that opens up referencing the period just prior to the Civil War. The underlying message is that we are still a House Divided 150 years later.
Medium: Reconstructed house opens as a book, tintypes of Black & White people in windows, racist caricature of Black butler, cutout stereotypes of Black kids dancing. Inside - “Uncle Tom's Cabin”book, old sampler, manipulated photos of Black girl & boy to make them look entitled, 2 photos of Black families from the early 1900's.
