Commentary: Katrina refers to the devastating hurricane that crippled New Orleans during George Bush's second administration. The word itself has come to be synonymous with government failure to adequately protect citizens from catastrophe. I fashioned a hearse from an old shoeshine box, which reminds us (from the caskets in the rear) that it was Black Americans who suffered the brunt of the government's ineffectiveness.
Medium: Antique shoeshine box converted into hearse, vintage racist stereotype wood dolls in pullout drawers, racist caricature driver, Victorian collapsible parasol, old brass toy trumpet, old doll carriage wheels
