Commentary
This piece was finished right before the 2020 presidential election and references Trump's raucous political rallies, which are designed to whip up his conservative base. Raucous rallies have been part of American culture almost from its inception, but usually they were connected to religious revival events.  In our time they have also been used to whip up conservative supporters into a patriotic frenzy.
