Commentary: The first shot of what became the Philippine- American War (1899-1902) was fired by a sentry,William Grayson of the 1st Nebraska Infantry Regiment. This War was the inaugural event in American Imperialism – justified as a tenet of The White Man's Burden, a belief that God bestowed upon the White Man the imperative to civilize the Non-White people of the the Earth. The atrocities committed in pursuit of this goal in the Philippine-American War foreshadowed modern day conflicts stretching from Vietnam to Afghanistan, conflicts emanating from the conceit of White Supremacy.
Medium: Antique Water-buffalo horns with attached wood American flag crest from the Filipino/American War period (1899-1902). Large vintage rifle box painted and fashioned into a sentry box, vintage hand carved period wood soldier with wood rifle and wood bullet belt.
