This work references the anti-abortion movement in Texas, as well as many other states, where they attempted to curtail a woman's Choice option to the point that the only realistic choice for many women was to either forgo having an abortion or resort to self induced methods or illicit back alley procedures – the coat hanger depicts these alternatives - for terminating an unwanted pregnancy, with very harmful yet predictable consequences for many poor women. The irony of course, is these anti-Choice movements masquerade under the guise of being concerned for woman’s health.
